Bokone Bophirima Wildlife Academy to hold its first ever graduation ceremony

It is all systems go for the Bokone Bophirima Wildlife Academy which is due to hold its first ever graduation ceremony of forty young men and women in nature conservation.

This historical event will take place in Taung Agricultural College Hall on Friday, 07 December 2018.

The academy was officially opened on 02 February 2018 by MEC Manketsi Tlhape of North West Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development in partnership with North West Parks Board and the South African Wildlife College to train and develop black community-based rangers and field guides for game parks, game farms, resorts and lodges.

Speaking earlier this year during the official opening of the academy, MEC Manketsi Tlhape emphasised that this initiative advances and align itself to the fundamentals of Education 2030 Incheon Declaration, which advocates for an inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Of the nearly 150 applicants, only 40 made it out to be part of the first intake by the college and majority are from rural communities around the province.

The intense training encapsulated use of rifle, law enforcement, conservation philosophy, patrols, drill  and discipline, communications, tracking, first aid, observation posts, ambushes, crime scene control, and night operations .

The candidates will be accordingly awarded a National Certificate: Nature Conservation Resource Guardianship which is at NQF level 2.
