The Department of Basic Education will on 8 June 2015 host a Pre-conference meeting at the Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani Hotel, in Durban. The Pre-Conference meeting will be held on the sidelines of the 7th Annual South African Aids Conference taking place from 09-12 June. The theme for this year is Reflection, Refocus and Renewal.
The objectives of the Pre-Conference meeting will be to reflect on the curriculum response to HIV and AIDS (the opportunities and gaps), to reflect on the teaching of HIV and sexuality education in Schools (the strengths & challenges) and to chart a way forward to strengthening sexuality and HIV education in schools.
It is expected that the meeting will enable the Department and stakeholders to share experiences, lessons learnt and to stimulate robust engagement with the sector’s policy on HIV prevention, care and support in schools. It will also afford parties who are yet to comment on the Draft National Policy on HIV, STI’s and TB the opportunity to do so before the deadline on Friday, 19 June 2015.
