Arts and Culture hosts a Colloquium on Creative Arts with the Living Legends as part of Africa Month Celebrations
As part of Africa Month colloquium series, the Department of Arts and Culture will on Monday, 21 May 2018, host a colloquium on the creative arts titled, ‘Living Legends and the Art of Living,’ in honour of the Living Legends. The colloquium will take place at the Trevor Huddleston Centre, Sophiatown in Johannesburg.
The Living Legends have borne witness to the darkest days of the struggles, they have experienced intense oppression from the apartheid state, and a life of fighting for freedom. They have lived to see the advent of a new non-racial and non-sexist, free and democratic South Africa. They impart to new generations, a renewed sense of belonging which extends beyond the embrace of their roots but also encompasses and reflects upon a sense of being African in the world. Minister Nathi Mthethwa will deliver a keynote address at the colloquium.
A panel comprising of leading minds in the creative arts such as Don Mattera; Dorothy Masuku; Abigail Kubeka; Peter Magubane; and Stompie Manana will be participating in the discussions.
2018 Africa Month during the month of May takes place under the theme, “The Year of Nelson Mandela: Building a Better Africa and a Better World,” to celebrate the legacy of Nelson Mandela and to promote African Unity.
