Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development introduces Phytosanitary E-Certification System, 9 May

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will host an event to introduce an electronic system for the application for phytosanitary certificates on 09 May 2022 at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre, Boksburg, Gauteng.

The system was designed to facilitate the electronic processing of applications for phytosanitary certificates; this is a certificate that is required by some of the trading partners as part of the documentation for the export of agricultural products.

The e-cert system provides the following benefits:

  • All applications are completely managed online
  • Automated response upon completion and processing of the application
  • Tracking of applications by clients
  • Reduction of fraudulent activities related to phytosanitary certificates

Implementation of the system started with exportation of grapes from November 2019, followed by citrus and other plant commodities in April 2020, going fully paperless in April 2021.
