Gauteng Premier to celebrate children’s rights with song and dance

Children from all corners of Gauteng will be in for a massive treat next Monday 8 June 2009 when Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and other members of her Executive Council host them at and International Day of Children celebration.

The celebration, led by the Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development, will include interactive programmes on safety and protection of children. Activities will focus on road safety; health safety and sport and recreation activities. Other treats include face painting and jumping castles.

Issues expected to be covered by the Premier include: awareness of child abuse and exploitation; children’s rights; the need for families and communities to advocate the protection and care of children and to identify and report child abuse and neglect.

The promotion and advocacy programmes on the importance of children’s protection and safety that began last month, will continue until July 2009.
