Gauteng 2010 World Cup mobilisation road shows

The Gauteng provincial government will from 3 to 7 May rollout the 2010 FIFA World Cup community mobilisation road shows scheduled to take place in Sedibeng area.

This is an initiative by the Gauteng provincial government in partnership with Transnet aimed at mobilising communities to rally behind the national team and contribute towards hosting a successful world cup.

The move will also see a Transnet and Gauteng provincial government branded truck visiting schools, churches as well as the malls in all regions of the province until the beginning of the world cup.

"The Gauteng provincial government is using this opportunity to interact directly with our communities and to galvanise their support for our national team," said Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Nelisiwe Moerane.

"We are also implementing the Gauteng 2010 Gateway campaign launched by the premier last year as our provincial social mobilisation programme to create the hype around the 2010 World Cup," said MEC.

The activities during the road shows will include ball juggling, diski dance, face painting, five-a-side soccer tournaments, and coaching clinics by soccer legends and performances by local artists. There are also competitions which form part of the weekly programme where exciting 2010 related giveaways are given to winning participants.

The Sedibeng road show will culminate with a Football Friday activity at Sebokeng plaza where the Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane and MEC Nelisiwe Moerane are expected to attend.
