Deputy Minister Thabethe to lead a business delegation to Zimbabwe

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe will lead a delegation of  business people to the fifth Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) scheduled to take place in Harare and Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from 14 to 18 October 2013.

The objective of the ITI is to increase trade and investment between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Deputy Minister Thabethe says the ITI will provide a platform to strengthen bilateral relations, both economic and political, between South Africa and Zimbabwe and to also to promote intra-Africa trade as well as integration of the continent.

“The ITI comes as a follow-up on four previous successful ITIs that took place in Zimbabwe and have produced economic benefits for both countries,” said Thabethe.Thabethe also said South Africa and Zimbabwe have complementary economies that have the potential to become the region’s trade and investment hub.

The programme for the ITI will include Deputy Minister Thabethe’s bilateral meetings, site visits, mini exhibitions, and business to business meetings.Sectors targeted for the ITI are agriculture and agro-processing, built environment professionals, oil and gas, mining and capital equipment as well as electro technical.

The ITI is part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (the dti) Export and Investment Promotion Strategy that focuses on targeted high growth markets with the objective of creating investment and export opportunities for South African companies and promoting South Africa as a trade and investment destination.
