The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT), Ms. Pinky Kekana, will from Monday, the 2nd of November to Wednesday the 4th of November, visit the Ga Segonyana, Gamagara and Joe Morolong Local Municipality’s located in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality in the Northern Cape Province as part of the Department’s Broadcasting Digital Migration (BDM) programme monitoring, public awareness and indigent registration drive.
Broadcasting Digital Migration (BDM) Programme:
The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies is tasked with ensuring the rollout of the Broadcasting Digital Migration programme (BDM) in South Africa and seeks to migrate the country from analogue to digital service, and as well as ensure universal access to broadcasting services to all South Africans. The visit follows the initial Switch- off of 18 analogue transmitters in October 2016. Monitoring/inspection activities seek to identify challenges and institute remedial actions of the programme in the Province.
The Deputy Minister will be accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Makgabo Reginah Mhaule.
The three-day visit will be in collaboration with BDM stakeholders, the Northern Cape Provincial Government, District and Local municipalities who are key in supporting the programme in the province.
