Mme Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs will announce the winners of the South African Youth Water Awards during the South African Youth Water Summit, on 1 October 2010, in Gallagher Estate, Midrand.
The Deputy Minister will present the youth awards in the following categories:
- Baswa le Meetse (Youth in Water) - This competition-based project targets Grade 6 learners and conveys health and hygiene messages through medium of art, ie drama, traditional music, poetry, praise singing and posters
- South African Youth Water Prize (SAYWP) - Learners between Grade 9 and 11 are engaged in identifying problems and develop inventions and awareness projects to solve them. The project serves as an incubator for the learning academy
- Aqua-Enduro - The core business of the programme is issues of drinking water quality. The aim is to develop an interest in learners who are between Grade 8 and 11 to pursue careers in the water sector
- Invasive Alien Plant Educational Programme - focuses on raising awareness about the impact of invasive alien species on our natural resources.
