The Department of Social Development, in partnership with the Limpopo Provincial Department of Health and Social Development, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will celebrate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Schoonoord (Sekhukhune District, Limpopo). The commemoration coincides with the Drug Awareness Week.
The Minister of Social Development, Edna Molewa and the MEC of Health and Social Development, Miriam Segabutla will address the gathering and outline government response to the growing phenomenon of substance abuse and illicit trafficking. Other government departments, namely: Education, Health, Sports and Recreation as well as the local municipality will participate in the event.
