Department of Science and Technology (DST) donates a mobile science laboratory

The Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom, will hand over a mobile laboratory to the ArcelorMittal Science Centre in Sebokeng on Friday, 5 November 2010 at 10h00.

The ArcelorMittal Centre is one of the 23 science centres that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) supports in its promotion of science awareness. This the DST does through capacity building and the awarding of an annual development grant, among other things.

A grant of over R300 000 was awarded to the centre towards the purchase and equipping of a Toyota Quantum panel van that will now be used as a mobile laboratory, enabling the centre to reach out to more schools in the area.

The centre provides support in the learning and teaching of mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences and English to learners in grades 10 to 12 in the Sedibeng Education District.

All media are invited.
