Department of Health to receive a group of healthcare professionals from the United States of America (USA)

The MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, will be receiving a delegation of healthcare workers under the auspices of the Seventh Day Adventist Students Association on Monday, 26 July 2010 at a function to be held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital at 18h15. 

Advocate Boyce Mkhize of SDASA says; As part of our varied initiatives, we also conduct community health awareness programmes to sensitise communities about healthy lifestyles in keeping with the strategic goals of the Department of Health. In this regard we will be hosting a group of medical missionary workers from the United States called the United Hands Project to contribute in delivering specialist healthcare services in the various institutions of the Department of Health.

The United Hands Project is non-profit organisation that has been in existence since April, 1995. It provides an annual opportunity for healthcare professionals and ancillary members to offer free medical care to targeted communities. A team of 50 medical practitioners will be arriving in the province ranging from doctors, dentists, eye-care specialists, nurses, physiotherapists, etc to help n delivering specialist care to rural communities of the province.

“There are two ways of spreading light - to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it,” says the MEC. “The team of healthcare workers coming to the province will help those partially blind and awaiting cataract surgeries, to see more clearly. They will realy spread light in the rural communities of our province.”
