Department of Health and Social Development to raise drug and alcohol abuse awareness in Thokoza

Each year the international community including South Africa observes 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as proclaimed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. As the lead department in the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, the Department of Health and Social Development will mark the day with an event to be held as follows:

Date: 26 June 2009
Time: 09h00
Venue: Sam Ntuli Stadium in Thokoza
Theme: “Drug control”

The objective of the event is to serve as a platform to raise awareness to communities, especially the youth in Ekurhuleni, about the ill effects of drug and alcohol abuse. The other objectives of the anti-drug campaign are to inspire people and mobilise support for the curbing of the supply of drugs and alcohol in communities, “drug control”.

The theme for this year’s campaign is drug control and the slogan is do drugs control your life? Your life! Your community! No place for drugs.

Kabelo Mabalane will speak to the youth attending the event and provide entertainment.
