A culture of service excellence

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education will be hosting its third Service Excellence Awards Ceremony to honour top educators, officials, schools and districts in a ceremony to take place on Friday, 10 June at Coastland Convention Centre.

This prestigious event is held annually and is aimed at promoting a culture of service delivery excellence within the public service. “We want to promote Ubuntu and a culture of service delivery excellence within the department. We must uphold the highest standard of service delivery by putting in place a value system that delivers service with loyalty, honest, integrity, fairness, care and professionalism,” said MEC Senzo Mchunu, who will be the keynote speaker at the awards ceremony.

The Service Excellence Awards are as a result of a Cabinet decision that necessitated all government departments to hold its own Service Excellence Awards so that its winner can compete in the Premiers Service Excellence Awards. To this end, the KZN Department of Education will hold its own Service Excellence Awards Ceremony which is based on recognising excellence achieved by different sectors within the department through the implementation of Batho Pele principles.

“Last year the department won the Premiers Service Excellence Awards and this year we also hope we will do very well,” said the Head of Department, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi. Members of the media will be given the opportunity to interview and take photographs of the top 10 winners at the gala event.
