CRL Rights Commission invites the Representatives of North West communities to a capacity building workshop in preparation towards the launch of cultural, religious and language community councils (as part of Africa and Youth Month activities for 2012)

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (hereinafter CRL Rights Commission) is a constitutional human rights institution established by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa in 2004.

The Commission is mandated to promote respect and further the protection of the rights of cultural, religious and linguistic communities and to promote the right of communities to develop their historically diminished heritage and to recognise community councils.

As part of a preparation towards the launch of the Community Councils in the North West province between July and August 2012, the CRL Rights Commission will host a capacity building workshop with various organisations and stakeholders on 2 June 2012.

The CRL Rights Commission humbly extend its invitation to the representatives of Communities who are involved in protecting and promoting cultural, religious and language rights to form themselves as Community Councils and become part of the CRL Rights Commission.

The purpose and details of the workshop are as follows:

  • To share the aims of establishing Community Councils
  • To discuss the possible launch of the Community Councils and
  • To explore the possibility of collaborations and partnerships with the various stakeholders towards the establishment of community councils
