Treasury hosts 2023 Public Financial Management conference, 20 to 22 Sept

National Treasury will host the 2023 Public Financial Management conference from 20 to 22 September in Johannesburg under the theme: Innovative and Ethical Public Finance Management in Challenging Times. The department delivered two successful PFM Conferences in May 2016 andnMay 2018 under the Financial Management Improvement Programme III funded by the European Union (EU).

The 2023 PFM conference will serve as a platform to create awareness of some of the latest PFM reforms led by the National Treasury. The Conference aims to cover the nine PFM disciplines which include amongst others: Financial Accounting, Revenue Management, Expenditure Management, Supply Chain Management, and Budgeting.

The key objectives of the 2023 PFM Conference include:

  • Building a culture of accountability in specific PFM sectors
  • Creating a platform for PFM officials to update their knowledge and awareness of the latest trends and developments in the financial management space

  • Profiling the National Treasury, and its units, as important resources in achieving and sustaining PFM excellence
  • Showcasing available PFM resources and training and how to access them
  • Highlighting good practice
  • Building communities of practice
     

The Conference will target all spheres of government. Delegates will include amongst others, Chief Financial Officers, Provincial Accountants-Generals’, heads of PFM disciplines, and other relevant stakeholders responsible for overseeing the implementation of the financial disciplines. In addition, Development Partners, members of the Higher Education Section and relevant professional bodies.

The National Treasury fulfils a pivotal role in the implementation and management of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) No 1 of 1999 as well as the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) No 56 of 2003. One of the key modalities of ensuring greater awareness and implementation of PFMA and MFMA Reforms is through periodic national dialogue and engagements.
