Summer school on intellectual property, technology transfer under way in Durban

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) is hosting a two-week summer school on intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer, at which current issues pertaining to IP management and commercialisation will be discussed.

Taking place in Durban, from 24 November to 5 December 2014, the event was organised by WIPO in collaboration with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission, the Durban University of Technology and the National Intellectual Property Management Office, a specialised service delivery unit of the Department of Science and Technology.

According to Ms Mavis Nyatlo, Director for Advisory and Support Services at NIPMO, the next 10 days will provide scholars, senior students and young professionals with more insight into international best practices in IP management and the technology transfer space.

The programme includes lectures, discussions on case studies, and simulation exercises on selected IP and technology transfer topics, with an orientation towards the interface between IP and other disciplines.

WIPO is the global forum for IP services, policies, information and cooperation.  It is a self-funding agency of the United Nations with 188 member states, with the mission to lead the development of a balanced and effective IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
