Parliamentary Committees hold land claims workshop

As the country eagerly awaits the date of the re-opening of the land claim process, Parliament is getting ready and developing a plan on how to participate and facilitate the process from legislative point of view.

To this end, Members of Parliament from Committees such as Land Reform and Rural Development; Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries; Public Works, Human Settlement; Arts and Culture together with Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will be joined by Minister Gugile Nkwinti, academics, MPLs, traditional leaders and other experts this week during a two-day workshop to be held in Parliament under the theme "Redressing the legacy of the 1913 Native Land Act".

The workshop will discuss, among other issues, the land reform policy framework, historical analysis of the legislations and their impact on the society, analysis of willing-buyer willing-seller model, and the role of municipalities in the implementation of land reform and development programmes.

Details of the workshop:
Date: 7 to 8 June 2013
Venue: Old Assembly Chamber, Parliament, Cape Town
