Medical negligence claim under the spotlight
The rising number and impact of medico-legal claims in South Africa has spurred the health industry into a united action with Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi convening the very first two days medico-legal summit on 9 to 10 March 2015 at Saint Georges Hotel.
The summit which will be addressed by various speakers, including but not limited to the World Health Organization; British Litigation Authority; Medical Protection Society; Road Accident Fund etc will deliberate on how to prevent medico-legal litigations in the South African health sector both public and private.
The Medico-Legal Summit which will be attended by various stakeholders including health experts; legal fraternity; medical specialists; hospital groups; managers and interested parties in the health industry will address, among others the following:
- Patient safety
- The impact of medico-legal litigation on the recruitment of specialists
- Impact of litigations on access to health care in South Africa
- Management of claims; and
- Access to justice for patients
