MEC Meeko to host women in green economy dialogue
In wrapping up the women's month, DESTEA MEC Thabo Meeko will, on Friday 25 August 2023, host a dialogue with women in green economy at Maria Moroka Nature Resort in Thaba Nchu at 10h00 am.
About 100 business women drawn from all five districts of the province will attend this august occasion.
The department is hosting this symposium in response to the 2023 Womens's Month overarching injunction – “Accelerating socio-economic opportunities for women's empowerment”.
"While our country has made numerous strides helping advance women, their full potential in our society is still to be realized. The reality is that gender inequality still persists with more women than men mired in poverty and unemployment”, MEC Meeko lamented.
The one-day dialogue will inter alia tackle the following topics:
- Linkages between environment and the economy.
- Funding opportunities within the green economy and
- Success stories and best practices by SMMEs
It will clearly empower women to participate in green economy with great deal of gumption as it will showcase progress made in women's involvement in green economy. These women will also get the opportunity to share best practices and learn how to access green funding opportunities.
"We need to be aggressive in promoting learning opportunities to empower women in business, to initiate their own green projects, share expertise for innovation within the energy sector and the create much-needed jobs through green economic initiatives”, MEC Meeko said.
The dialogue will create linkages beyond the event for future economic participation to enhance the lives of women.
The establishment of eco-friendly human settlements will go a long way in providing a dignified standard of living, combat climate change, and its impact in order to lead sustainable transport usage, renewable energy, and waste management.
MEC Meeko will set the tone for the dialogue and delineate government’s vision for the green economy.
