KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs holds economic summit, 5 Apr

Economic Council to engage on transformation and driving growth in KwaZulu-Natal

The KwaZulu-Natal Economic Council – an ensemble comprising representatives of organised labour, the business sector, government and civic organisations – will tomorrow, 5 April 2017, convene a summit to discuss how the province can fast track its goal of achieving a competitive and equitably transformed economy that creates jobs.

The discussions, which will occur under the topic: “Improving KwaZulu-Natal’s Economic Competitiveness in the Global Market” will be led the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Mr. Sihle Zikalala who is also the Chairperson of the Council.

This topic is aimed at opening up discussion on the importance of building a competitive and sustainable economy in KwaZulu-Natal as a means to boost growth, reduce unemployment and poverty levels and, ultimately, achieve a radically transformed economy.

Other than the MEC, the discussions will also feature representatives of the various bodies that constitute the Economic Council and prominent specialists in the fields of economics and entrepreneurial development.

The KZN Economic Council was launched in 2011 as a direct response to the challenges facing the province and has, to date, been able to approve three chapters of the KZN provincial Social Accord which deal with, in the main, the integration of SMMEs into the economy, women empowerment, the green economy, special economic zones as well as the aeretropolis strategy and the maritime sector.
