Electoral Commission and UNDP host Social Media and Elections Conference in Cape Town, 2 to 5 Mar

Social Media and Elections Conference 2 – 5 March 2020, Cape Town International Convention Centre

The Electoral Commission of South Africa in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in South Africa is hosting a conference for African election management bodies on the impact of social media on the integrity of elections at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 2 – 5 March 2020.

Social media has also become a powerful tool for democracy, offering both benefits and challenges to all stakeholders. Themed ‘Safeguarding Electoral Integrity in the Digital Age: Strategies for Combatting Digital Disinformation’, the conference will bring together experts in social media and elections from around Africa and beyond to share experiences in harnessing the benefits and mitigating the risks of social media. Speakers and panelists have been drawn from around the world including New York, London, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Johannesburg, Maputo and Tunis.

Commissioners and senior executives from more than 34 African election management bodies have already confirmed their attendance.
