The Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) will host a seminar in Pretoria on Thursday, 30 October 2014, to launch a programme to tackle the country’s sanitation challenges through research, innovation and technology.

The programme, to be implemented by the Water Research Commission, will see this sanitation technology demonstrated in several schools and some households in Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape.

SASTEP is expected to inform the sanitation policy of the Department of Water and Sanitation and develop sustainable human settlements with well-serviced public and domestic facilities, saving water and protecting the environment against pollution.
