Bridging digital divide through e-learning

Gauteng Department of Education is hosting a week long information, communication and technology (ICT) exhibition and mediation of curriculum software which will be targeting 2 500 primary and high schools in the province at the Turffontein Racecourse, Johannesburg.

Computer technology and the internet have changed the rules of the teaching and learning game, and the E-Learning week aims to promote the integration of ICTs into the curriculum to enhance the delivery of teaching and learning in schools.

This exhibition also intends to strengthen the implementation of e-learning principles and to unleash the potential of ICT use in the classroom. It will also raise awareness about the available ICT e-resources for teaching and learning and seeks to guide educators on the use of curriculum software.

The E-Learning week will make a substantial contribution to the professional development of educators in the utilisation of ICTs in the classroom and to also bridge the digital divide.

This ICT exhibition and mediation of curriculum is in a form of hands-on workshops, presentations and demonstrations.
