The legislative framework requires that all health professional categories spend a year on community service, and currently one year for the internship programmes. These health professionals are then employed on contract by the department only for the duration of that period.
The review serves to highlight career opportunities for health professionals in the Eastern Cape.
To market districts, institutions, complexes for the purpose of recruitment of the junior health professionals to ensure that we try and retain them within the employment of Eastern Cape Department of Health.
Involve them and recruit them to join the mentorship programme which will help during the institutional induction programme, assist the 2010 intake of junior health professionals within their districts and institutions.
Involve them to join the recruitment team, to recruit health professionals from the institutions of higher learning, to ensure we have 100 percent intake to fill the available posts.
To market and showcase the improvements and achievement of the department (sections and special programmes)
Review the community service programme
Review issues highlighted by the community servants during the induction programme.
