Afrikaner culture to be celebrated in Pietermaritzburg

In an effort to forge social cohesion, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture, in cooperation with Capital Media and SBG, will hold this year’s instalment of wildfees, which is one of the major social cohesion projects run by the department. The annual event is meant to expose multicultural audience to the Afrikaner culture in the form of cuisine, music and dance.

The event will be marked by a series of activities such as:

  • Different cultural groups showcasing their dance styles
  • Speeches by cultural activists
  • Performances by emerging and main artists.

The function will take the bushveld atmosphere because of big fires that will be made around the ground. Annually the event manages to draw a crowd in excess of 5 000 people from all cultural groups who converge to share in this colourful and exciting experience which contributes immensely towards nation building.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Mrs Weziwe Thusi, will deliver a keynote address at the event.
