Acting Transport MEC to visit Ngcobo bus accident victims

The acting MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Honourable Mcebisi Jonas, will visit the Ngcobo bus accident victims at Frere hospital in East London on Saturday morning at 10h00.

MEC Jonas, who is an MEC for Finance and Economic Development, will also meet with officials from the Department of Transport, Road Accident Fund and leadership of the bus industry to discuss the way forward with regard to the assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured and the best possible strategies to avoid accidents of this nature during this festive season.

Already, provincial and municipal traffic officers from Buffalo city, Maletswai and Lukhanji have tested 458 busses and minibuses as part of the National Bus Operation. During that operation, 149 busses and 30 taxis were suspended.

09h00: Briefing of the MEC by Mr Charles Reynolds, Mr Ncedo Kumbaca, Mr Tshepo Machaea, official from Road Accident Fund, representative from the bus industry at the district office boardroom
10h00: Proceed to Frere hospital with a convoy led by traffic control
10h15: MEC Jonas interacts with the accident victims
11h00: Door-step media briefing at Frere hospital
11h30: MEC Jonas departs
12h00: Evaluation and way forward session at the district office
13h00: The programme ends
