2012 Social Development Budget Vote Speech

Gauteng MEC for Social  Development invites you to the 2012 budget vote speech. The department offers a broad range of services to older persons, unemployed youth, young mothers who are recipients of the child support grants, people with disabilities, children and women, including those living in peri-urban and rural areas.

The occasion coincides with the recent wave of child abuse cases and, this year’s Child Protection Week taking place from 28 May to 9 June, 2012, in Gauteng province, themed “Working Together to Protect Children.” The MEC's budget vote speech will demonstrate how the Gauteng Department of Social Development is stepping up measures to ensure that every child grows up safe, protected and respected from a disability and gender perspective.

The speech would  also focus on the issues relating to women abuse, Early Childhood Development Centres (crèche), progress made in addressing other social ills affecting our communities including the challenges faced by the department in attempting to contribute to the creation of a “better life for all”, and how the department would strengthen partnerships with partners such the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sector, Faith-Based Organisations and the business community, among others.
