2011 Eastern Cape provincial schools choral music festival underway

This is an important and busy period for the Eastern Cape Basic Education department as it prepares to host one of its prestigious music festival competitions in Mthatha this weekend.

For three days, a total of 5 343 learners and their choir conductors from schools all over the Eastern Cape will be participating and performing in the event in various vernaculars to claim the top spot as the 2011 provincial choral Eisteddfod winners.

This year’s range should be a delightful one for the choral music enthusiasts. The repertoire consists of indigenous folklore performance, an HIV and AIDS rendition, concert solo, Opera, to mention but a few.

The competition is scheduled to commence on 20 May 2011 and concludes on 22 May 2011 because of the different phases, namely, the intermediate phase, the senior phase and the Further Education and Training Band who all will be taking the stage on different days.

All first position schools will further represent the Eastern Cape province in the National Championships in Pretoria between 30 June to 3 July 2011.
