Gauteng hosts Youth Expo to commemorate Youth Month, 8 to 16 Jun

The Gauteng Provincial Government has put together a Programme under the theme Youth Moving Gauteng City Region Forward to commemorate Youth Month which features exciting activities for the youth of Gauteng.

The Programme is centred around the sharing of information crucial for the development and empowerment of Young people in the Province.

The main focus of this programme is on more than a weeklong Youth Month Expo at the Nasrec Exhibition Centre aimed at exposing the youth of Gauteng to information and opportunities available to them towards their own development and that of the province.

The Youth Month Expo will start from the 8 to 16 June and will integrate various activities including exhibitions, discussions, culture and entertainment (movies, theatre, performances), sporting activities as well as a series of lectures by high profile speakers.

The Provincial Government has targeted the youth from all sectors to benefit from this programme and expects to reach an estimate of 60 000 Young People in Gauteng.

As part of the launch today, the Provincial Government handed over K53 Learner Licenses to 368 Grade 11 learners from schools across the province. The main focus of this initiative is on the youth who are not in possession of the learners and driver’s licenses.

The goal behind this initiative is to ensure that Gauteng, as a smart province, equips young people who are leaving school, with learners and driving skills, developing their driving abilities as a critical life skill which will enable them to be more active in the economy of the province.

The Province will on the 15 June host a Youth Parade for the Future in Soweto targeting 8 000 youth followed by the National event on the 16 June in Tshwane.
