Deputy Minister John Jeffery raises awareness on older persons’ abuse, 2 Dec

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, MP, will visit the community of Kwa-Mhlanga to raise awareness on the challenges faced by older persons in the communities. Deputy Minister Jeffery will address an inter-generational audience with a focus on promoting the Older Persons Act, 2006 (Act 13 of 2006). The Act aims to deal effectively with the plight of older persons by establishing a framework with the intention to empower and protect older persons against the escalating abuse of their inherent dignity and well being.

The visit is supported by partner stakeholders, Help Age International and South African Ageing Network Organizations as part of the 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children.

The senior citizens will be given an opportunity to engage with Deputy Minister Jeffery on matters affecting them.
