Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Conference

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, as a Sub-National Branch of the Commonwealth Women’s Parliamentary Association (Africa Region), is proudly hosting the fifth Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region Conference.

The theme for the conference is, “Are African Parliaments on Target Towards Attaining the 2015 Millennium Development Goals?”

Delegates and Observers from the 19 National Branches of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association namely; Botswana, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia have been invited.

Thirty six Sub-National Branches from Nigeria, nine from South Africa, and Zanzibar are also invited.

Topics for discussion:

  • Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.
  • Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.
  • Creating a Gender Sensitive Parliamentary Environment.
