The Department of Arts and Culture and the provincial archives will host a National Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week from 18 to 23 May 2009. The Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week is aimed at creating public awareness and appreciation of keeping records as part of the preservation of memories, history and heritage. We believe that the availability of and access to archival material plays a significant role in nation building and social cohesion.
Members of the public and media are invited to visit the national and provincial archives facilities free of charge to learn about the importance of archiving documents and audio visual recordings. Tours of the national and provincial archives facilities will take place between 9h00 and 15h00 every day.
