Gauteng residents, commuters and soccer fans are urged to take note of the following key issues when attending games during the world cup:
Residents, commuters and fans, in particular, those from host cities must note that certain roads around the match venue precincts will be closed on match days and are therefore requested to use alternative routes.
Those fans using the park and walks are urged to plan their routes to the stadiums beforehand. For example, for those fans attending matches at Soccer City, Rand Show and Aeroton Park and walks, ticket holders are encouraged to use the M1 south or M1 north. For the ShareWorld Park and walk, they are advised to use the N1 and then the N17 off ramp.
Ticket holders are also asked to have parking tickets readily available to reduce delays at check points. Illegal parking will not be tolerated and vehicles will be towed away. Parking tickets for park and ride and park and walk are available at http://www.ticketbreak.co.za or http://www.computicket.com.
Fans are also reminded to note the drop-off area as it will serve as a pick-up point after the game.
In Johannesburg, on match days, the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit will operate normally until 09h00 and thereafter ferry fans on the trunk route to either Soccer City or Ellis Park from Soweto and Johannesburg central business district.
Those attending matches are requested to travel in groups or share transport to the park and ride and park and walk facilities to reduce the number of vehicles and avoid congestion.
Metrorail is operating dedicated trains to the match venues on match days and these are free to match ticket holders. These trains cover areas including Vereeniging, Germiston, Springs, Naledi, Mabopane, Mamelodi and Pretoria Station.
