The Department of Mineral Resources has noted with regret a report of the incident that resulted in the tragic death of six workers at Eskom’s Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme Site near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal today.
The department’s KwaZulu-Natal Principal inspector, along with other departmental inspectors, visited the site of the incident earlier today, and the department has initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the accident, in line with provisions in the Mine Health and Safety Act.
The department would like to extend its condolences to the families of the deceased, and to wish all the injured a speedy recovery.
