The repealed University of Durban-Westville (Private) Amendment Act 32 of 1997 intended:

to amend the University of Durban-Westville Act, 1983 [repealed in 2001], so as to substitute a definition;
to further regulate the constitution of the council; and
to provide for matters connected therewith.
