The repealed Military Veteran's Affairs Act 17 of 1999 intended
- to provide
- for the development of national standards regarding military veterans and their dependants, including their entitlements;
- for the President to be Patron-in-Chief of all military veterans;
- for relevant Cabinet Committees to perform certain functions for the purposes of this Act;
- for responsibilities of the Minister of Defence;
- for the establishment of an Advisory Board for Military Veterans' Affairs;
- for an Office for Military Veterans' Affairs;
- for the development, promotion and implementation of policy; and
- for matters incidental thereto.
