Department of Labour brings mobility to a Khayelitsha resident

Labour Minister, Membathisi Mdladlana will be presenting an automated wheelchair to a Khayelitsha resident in the township tomorrow afternoon, 19 0ctober.

The wheelchair recipient Mr Mongezi Danster was injured at work in 1996 and has been using his brother’s dilapidated wheelchair.

The department visited Mr Danster in July this year, assessed his situation and the Compensation Fund Commissioner decided to reopen the case.

The client was then taken to see an Orthopedic and Spinal surgeon who performed a series of tests and advised the department on the extent of the client’s physical damage.

Based on the doctor’s report, the Commissioner adjudicated the claim and awarded the client 65% permanent disability. Along with other benefits, the client was assured an appropriate assistance device (motorised wheelchair).
