Western Cape to hold Imbizo Focus Week, 7 to 14 Nov

Imbizo Focus Week

5 November 2007

Imbizo Focus Week takes place in the Western Cape from 7 to 14 November
2007. During this period government and thousands of citizens from every corner
of the province will engage on the challenges faced in creating a better life
for all. Imbizos will be held in 17 areas which are part of the provincial
government's unique Social Transformation Programme.

During his State of the Province Address in February this year, Premier
Rasool announced a focused programme aimed at 15 areas in the province most
affected by poverty, drug abuse and crime, among other social pathologies. Last
month, six areas were added, several who had been part of Project Consolidate,
an initiative aimed at capacitating municipalities for service delivery.

In the last six months much work has been done in developing partnerships in
these areas, accelerating service delivery and planning for long term
development. One of the innovative programmes has been the Service Delivery
Jamborees during which government services were taken into communities on a
substantial scale.

This round of Izimbizo, rather than just being an exchange of ideas and
stating of problems, will focus on partnerships, developing solutions and
building on the work of the last six months.
