Labour Department Director-General, Dr Vanguard Mkosana, will on Wednesday
lead labour inspectors in conducting workplace inspections in the construction
sector in the Pretoria region. The inspection will put a special emphasis on
the enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other
construction regulations.
"The operation forms part of our ongoing drive to promote health and safety
in all workplaces, including the construction sector. It is important that we
intensify our vigilance and enforcement particularly in the construction sector
in the light of preparations for the 2010 World Cup," Dr Mkosana said today
(Monday)
The boom in the construction sector meant that workers would be exposed to
more risks, requiring the redoubling of efforts in enforcing law
compliance.
