Great Place, 16 April 2009
15 April 2009
To realise governmentâs vision of building a caring society and improving
services to the rural poor, the Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola
Skweyiya will launch a customer service point at Nyandeni Great Place, Eastern
Cape. The launch of the service point is a culmination of a service delivery
improvement initiative and partnership between the Department of Social
Development (national and provincial), the South African Social Security Agency
(SASSA) and the Nyandeni Kingdom (which stretches over Libode, Ngqeleni and
Port St Johns).
The service point is a rural development model which will serve as a hub for
the provision of various government services such as social grants, identity
documents, legal and general information on government services. The project
seeks to inculcate a culture of customer-centred approach in the public
service. Other key partners in the project include the South African Police
Service (SAPS) and the South African Post Office services. The Minister will be
accompanied by the MEC for Social Development in the Eastern Cape, Ms Xoliswa
Tom and His Majesty, King Ndamase Ndamase of the Nyandeni Kingdom.
