Youth Commission condemns PSL Supersport deal

National Youth Commission condemns the PSL/Supersport
deal

25 June 2007

The National Youth Commission (NYC) is concerned at the commercial interest
that has been placed at the expense of public interest at the signing of PSL
and Supersport Ltd deal which has made soccer inaccessible to the masses. One
of the deliberations of the Youth Parliament, young people condemned this
Premier Soccer League (PSL)/Supersport deal, indicating that it will deprive
young people a sport of national interest. In many communities, soccer is one
of the sports used to safeguard young people from the illegal activities.

The question that arises regarding this deal is, did the drivers of this
deal act in the interest of the public or their own personal financial gains?
As custodians of young people NYC has to safeguard the interest of youth, by
removing the sport away from South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)
which is accessible to the whole country, indicates that the disadvantaged
youth are left out in the development of the sport and the country as a
whole.
