Western Cape Parliament to visit province, 14 to 17 Aug

Western Cape Provincial Parliament goes to the people

The focus of the Western Cape legislature this week falls on the special
Provincial Week where committee members of the National Council of Provinces
and the Provincial Parliament will jointly investigate certain important
issues.

The theme for the week is: 'Addressing challenges for effective and
sustainable service delivery to our people.'

On Tuesday, 14 August 2007 the group members shall have discussions on
related issues such as women on farms, farm evictions and housing on farms.

This meeting takes place from 10h00 in the Breede Valley Recreation Hall in
Worcester, and officials of the national Departments of Agriculture and Land
Affairs, the provincial Department of Agriculture, the local municipalities and
related organisations such as Agri Western Cape, Women on Farms and other
non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will also be in attendance.

During the afternoon the discussion will be about land reform where the
relevant organisations will also be present.

On Wednesday, 15 August 2007 the discussions will be followed up when they
meet in De Doorns. The MPs and MPPs will also visit the site where people were
relocated after building below the flood line.

On Thursday, 16 August 2007 the members of the two legislative councils will
meet in George where the local municipalities of George and Eden District will
present briefings on financial governance.

On Friday, 17 August 2007 the group will congregate in Cape Town where they
shall have discussions with the South African Local Government Association
(Salga) and later with Premier Ebrahim Rasool and relevant provincial
ministers.

Due to the Provincial Week, no sitting of the legislature are scheduled for
this week.
