on tourists
20 January 2009
The MEC for Arts, Culture and Tourism in KwaZulu-Natal, Mrs Weziwe Thusi,
strongly condemns the robbing of tourists in Kosi Bay, in the far northern
parts of the province. The tourists were robbed of their cellphones, cash and
vehicles by gun wielding assailants.
Thusi said: âTourism is one of the money spinners for the province. This
results in economic development and job creation. The perpetrators of this
heinous act should be brought to book as they are giving our country and
province a bad name and they are destroying the good work that has been done of
branding the province as the tourist destination of choice. Incidents of this
nature have decreased dramatically over the past few years. However, there are
still sporadic reports of crime against tourists and this should be stamped out
swiftly and decisively.â
She also called on those who might have information that could lead to the
arrest of the suspects to contact the police immediately.
