Zululand on Friday
14 February 2007
Last week in Durban, a film shot by the Zululand Film Forum, also in
partnership with the Department was shown at the Playhouse. 'Hanging On' is
directed by Themba Luthuli and Carl de Villiers, both of them staff at the
University. It concerns the struggle of a roadside artist, a lucky break that
brings him fame and fortune and the way he puts money back into the struggling
community from which he emerged.
The screening will mark the official launch by the MEC for Arts, Culture and
Tourism, Mrs Weziwe Thusi, of the Screenwriting, Film and Video Project,
initiated and paid for by the department. Also at the launch will be the Rector
of the University, Professor Rachel Gumbi and civic dignitaries. The function
begins at 06h00.
