Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism MEC Mrs Weziwe Thusi and members of
the Portfolio Committee for Arts, Culture, and Tourism join the rest of the
country in mourning the death of veteran musician and businessman Lucky
Dube.
Mrs Thusi has expressed shock and sadness at the senseless killing, "We are
really saddened. Lucky Dube's death is a huge loss to the music industry and
South Africa as a whole. Dube not only entertained us for over two decades but
he also created many job opportunities through his ventures as a musician and
businessman."
"Communities must unite against crime and work with the police to ensure
that the criminals responsible for Dube's death face the full might of the
law".
Mrs Thusi has paid tribute to the slain musician, "Dube will be remembered by
all South Africans as a pioneer who changed the face of reggae music in our
country. During his prolific career he touched the lives of millions of people
here at home and abroad."
"May God give comfort to his family, friends, and fans."
Portfolio committee Chairperson Rev Hawu Mbatha said Dube distinguished himself
as an artist in the 80's, a positive and well meaning young man.
"I personally knew him in my days at the South African Broadcasting Corporation
(SABC). On behalf of the portfolio committee I want to express our condolences
to his family, friends, and the entire music industry. May South Africa be
reclaimed from criminals and become our safe home again, may God Almighty bless
South Africa and our musicians."
