V Pikoli on appearing before Justice Portfolio Committee

Don't scandalise us! National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) boss
declares

3 May 2007

In his strongest response yet, the NPA's National Director of Public
Prosecutions , Advocate Vusi Pikoli warned those who continue to attack the NPA
to refrain from doing so immediately unless they want to turn our hard fought
democracy into a lawless society. "You can criticise us, but don't scandalise
us," declared Adv Pikoli during the NPA session with the Justice Portfolio
Committee in Parliament yesterday.

Adv Pikoli was forced to warn the NPA detractors following persistent
attacks by high ranking members of the ruling party accompanied by calls by the
African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) for the disbandment of the NPA
during their policy discussion meeting recently.

Adv Pikoli also called on Parliament to defend its laws as the NPA was only
implementing laws adopted by parliament. "We feel defenceless when we are
attacked for implementing laws adopted in this house," says Adv Pikoli as he
updated Members of Parliament on progress made since the establishment of the
NPA.

Adv Pikoli and high ranking members of the NPA are in parliament this week
to account on the activities of the NPA.

Today, 3 May 2007, starting at 10h00, the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) will
start the session by accounting to parliament on its activities. On Friday, 4
May 2007, the Directorate of Special Operations (Scorpions) will take the
podium to outline their activities.

The sessions are open to the media.
