Football Association (Fifa) World Cup

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) wishes to thank all
individuals, companies and organisations that responded to the Minister's
public notice on the Fifa request for a prohibition of the issue of certain
words and emblems bearing the 2010 signage in terms of Section 15(1) of the
Merchandise Act 1941 (Act 17 of 1941). The deadline for the submission was 2
October 2007.
All submissions are currently being processed and an announcement will be
made in due course in this regard. The Minister will also consider principles
contained in the Trade Marks Act, 1993 (Act No. 194 of 1993), when considering
the issues before a final decision is made on the Fifa application.
