16 August 2007
In August our country acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of South
African women to the liberation struggle of our country and the transformation
of our society. We also pay special tribute to the heroines who paved the way
for our country's liberation.
We cannot claim that we have reached the goals of women's liberation if
millions of our women are still living in abject poverty and have not been
emancipated economically. The economic emancipation of women is integral to the
celebration of 9 August, National Women's Day.
The Department Trade and Industry Gender and Women's Empowerment Unit will
be celebrating the department's achievements in providing our women with
opportunities to start and grow their enterprises. Under the theme South
African women entrepreneurs towards shared economic growth, the unit will be
hosting a breakfast debate about the impact of South Africa's economic policies
on women's empowerment. Various speakers have been invited to participate in
this debate.
You are invited to join our panel discussion to share your personal or your
organisation's views on the impact of South Africa's economic policies on
women's empowerment.
