MEC T Mhlahlo to launch Eastern Cape Transport Month Programme
with a Transport Sector Career Exhibition

Eastern Cape MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and Transport, Mr Thobile
Mhlahlo, will launch the provincial Transport Month Programme with a Transport
Sector Career Exhibition to be held at the Bhisho Airport on Monday, 1 October
2007, at 10h00.

Since 2005, government has earmarked the month of October as the Transport
Month and the department will be reaching out to its stakeholders and most
importantly, the communities of the Eastern Cape province.

Objectives of this campaign:

* to showcase or highlight transport programmes which have a positive impact
in all modes of transport
* to raise awareness of the important role of public transport and benefits
thereof
* highlight key interventions by government to expand services, increasing
access for the elderly, disabled, children, rural communities and the poor.

This exhibition will feature a tour around the airport by MEC Mhlahlo and
department stakeholders, including the South African Civil Aviation Authority
(SACAA), to see the progress made on the R100 million upgrade of the airport.
More than 2 000 young people of the Eastern Cape are expected to attend.

(Teta), Umsombovu Youth Fund, 43 Air School, Ikhala Further Education and
Training (FET) College, national Department of Transport Maritime Unit, Walter
Sisulu University Engineering Department, SACAA, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan
University Engineering Department, Port Elizabeth Traffic College, AV8
Helicopters, Aviation Training Academy, Eastern Cape Youth Commission,
Construction Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta), Arcus Gibb and
Algoa Bus Company.
